Douglas Lafreniere

Mr. Lafreniere is a retired Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Fitness and Health Promotion – Recreation and Leadership Services Programs at Loyalist College, where he served for 25 years. He also served as Supervisor of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) Accredited Fitness Appraisal Laboratory. Professor Lafreniere completed Honours Bachelor of Physical Education and Master of Science (Kinesiology) degrees at McMaster University, and is a Registered Kinesiologist and Certified Exercise Physiologist. His past work experience includes leadership roles with the Ontario Ministries of Tourism and Recreation and Community and Social Services. Professor Lafreniere received the Loyalist College Board of Governors’ Distinction Award for Innovation and Excellence in 1995 and the OASES Honorary Award from the Ontario Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences in 2004. Professor Lafreniere lives in Belleville with his wife. They have three children. Professor Lafreniere first joined the Board of Health as a Provincial Appointee in October, 2014, and was reappointed in January 2017.
