Tobacco

Quitting smoking is the single best thing a person can do to improve their health. It is important to ask your patient about their smoking status. You can assist them with quitting by providing cessation counselling or referring to other community services.

At HPEPH, we provide programs and services to help community members quit smoking or reduce their use of tobacco. These include our smoking cessation clinics and distribution of low-cost nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).

Nicotine Replacement Starter Packs are available at no charge to Health Care Providers in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. A Starter Pack contains two Nicoderm patches and a 15 pack of Nicorette gum. Each pack should provide a patient two days of NRT support.

“We Can Quit” Smoking Cessation Clinics:

At our “We Can Quit Smoking Clinics“, participants will receive support and access to low-cost NRT of patches, gum, and/or lozenges for $5 per product. We also distribute Quit Smoking Information Kits free of charge.

If you have a patient who is interested in quitting, we encourage you to complete the online referral form, or print and fax the referral form pdf to 613-966-1813, to connect them with Public Health’s smoking cessation team.
