HPEPH Offering Immunization Clinics to Help Protect Residents from the Flu

Hastings and Prince Edward Counties/November 7, 2018 - Flu season is just around the corner, and residents are encouraged to protect themselves from the flu by getting the flu shot.

The flu vaccine is available at various locations throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties including your healthcare provider's office, participating pharmacies and at Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) offices and clinics.

HPEPH will once again be offering the flu shot through dedicated drop-in community clinics. For a list of flu clinic locations please visit hpepublichealth.ca or see attached schedule. Individuals that are unable to visit an immunization clinic may book an appointment for a flu shot by calling Public Health at 613-966-5500 x 221 (Belleville and Picton), 613-394-4831 (Trenton) or 613-332-4555 (Bancroft).

"The flu can cause serious illness, and getting the flu shot can help protect you and those around you," says Dr. Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health for HPEPH. "The flu shot is the best protection against the flu. It is free of charge and available for everyone aged 6 months and older."

Certain groups of people are at higher risk of complications from the flu and are strongly encouraged to get immunized. These groups include:

  • children 6 months to less than 5 years of age
  • people aged 65 and older
  • people with chronic medical conditions

It is also recommended that individuals who live with or provide care to someone who falls under one of the groups listed above get immunized.
