Food Handler Training Course

 
"Every operator of a food service premise shall ensure that there is at least one food handler or supervisor on the premise who has completed food handler training during every hour in which the premise is operating" (s. 32, O. Reg. 493/17: Food Premises)
 
Food handler training for the public and food industry workers is offered in a variety of formats.
 
IN-PERSON
 
In-person courses are held at our offices in Bancroft, Belleville, Picton, and Trenton. Pre-registration is required and payment reserves your spot on a first come, first serve basis. We do not offer refunds or rescheduling to absent registrants.
 
Cost: $40 (includes a copy of the food handler course manual, a thermometer and a wallet card certificate upon successful completion of the course). Certificates expire after 5 years, after which you are eligible for re-certification (see Re-Certification below).

OTHER APPROVED COURSE PROVIDERS
 
 
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has approved a number of food handler training course providers. Click here for a list of organizations. After successful completion of a course you will receive the provincially recognized food handler certificate.
 
In Good Hands is an additional Ministry approved online certification course developed by Public Health Inspectors from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.  The course is completed at your own pace, with an online exam.
 
 
RE-CERTIFICATION
 
Those who have previously completed a food handler training program are eligible for re-certification. Re-certification is issued upon successful completion of the food handler training exam.
 
Cost: $20 (proof of previous successful completion of a food handler course required).
 
Re-certification exams are held at our Belleville office from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on the third Tuesday of each month. Participants must register in advance.
