Increasing Resilience in Children Ages 0-12 Years: An Evidence Summary

Throughout the early years, healthy social and emotional development paves the path for positive mental health and resilience later in life.  Resilience is the capacity to positively respond or adapt to, learn, and grow when confronted with change, challenging life circumstances, and setbacks, while minimizing or avoiding the damaging effects of those events. This evidence summary of published literature completed in September 2017 reviews interventions to build or increase resilience in children, ages 0-12.

As of Jan. 1, 2025 Hastings Prince Edward Public Health; Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington Public Health; and Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit merged to form Southeast Public Health (SEPH).
